West Coast Vancouver Island

Long days: June through August

Over 16 hours of daylight in June sounds like an obvious best time to visit — and it is the busiest, so the real planning question is how to use that light without fighting the crowds it brings.

Fog, crowds, and an early start

The busiest season is also the foggiest mornings

Marine fog is a routine summer morning feature on this coast, typically burning off by mid- to late morning as the day warms — it's not usually a trip-ending problem, but it does mean an early photo mission may need patience. Long daylight hours mean a genuinely usable evening for beach walks or a late dinner after a full day out.

This is also the peak booking season: lodging in Tofino and Ucluelet fills months ahead for July and August weekends, and popular trailhead parking lots at Long Beach and the Rainforest Trail can fill by mid-morning. An early start isn't just about the light — it's the difference between finding a parking spot and not.
