Ucluelet: the quieter southern base

Ucluelet sits 25 minutes closer to the park entrance than Tofino, anchored by the cliff-edge Wild Pacific Trail rather than a boat-excursion harbour. It's the practical choice for a storm-watching trip or a first night before heading north.

The Wild Pacific Trail

A cliff-edge trail built for rough weather

The Wild Pacific Trail's Lighthouse Loop is a 2.6 km, 45–60 minute walk along exposed headland cliffs to the Amphitrite Point lighthouse — the single best short storm-watching walk on this coast, with several covered viewing shelters along the way. The full trail system extends to about 8 km when the Big Beach-to-Rocky-Bluffs and Ancient Cedars sections are included.

Unlike Long Beach, most of this trail sits above the water on rock, which makes it a genuinely safer place to watch large surf than standing on open sand.
